Peneda-Gerês National Park is the only national park in Portugal and was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. It covers a vast area that extends from the Gerês mountains to the Peneda mountains, constituting a sanctuary of biodiversity and scenic beauty. Rich in flora and fauna, Gerês serves as a refuge for species such as the Iberian wolf, the garno (a type of wild horse) and an impressive variety of birds of prey.

First stop: São Bento da Porta Aberta

 

We begin our trip in São Bento da Porta Aberta, a historic sanctuary of deep spiritual significance.
